Arson in the Alley

Anyone who lives in a dry climate legitimately is concerned about the possibility of fire. There is a lot that can be cone to help lower the risks of fire spreading. But nothing can fully protect you from the stupidity of arson. In this case it is believed to be kids who walked through the alley dropping matches or cigarettes as they went.

 

In this case, neighbors and strangers wielding garden hoses and rakes saved the neighborhood and had most of the five fires fully out even before the fire department arrived. These remains looks small, but with the wind Tucson was beginning to experience that evening, it was a recipe for disaster.

 

This shed the only building that suffered any damage. 

The responses of neighbors overtook the wind whipped flames.

Many feet of leaves and grasses burned

             Because it is an unused lot,
         no one had be keeping up after the leaves.

The blaze went under the neighbors fence, scorching it, and setting fire to the compost pile on the other side I was enjoying the cooling off temps when this blaze flared up across from my oleander lined fence.

 Well after dark, this neighbor was raking clean
all debris from near his fence.

Fighting fires, even small ones is tiring.
Hung up my hat, had a cup of tea, and went to bed.
