Out of My Window - Whitstran

Out of my window a glorious sunset celebrated in the way that only nature can before the chaos of the fireworks that were to come.




Earlier in the day, some of the old chickens, no longer laying, went on to their next adventure. Nothing ever wasted.


As an aside, Miss T weathered the fireworks quite well other than she did want to be inside rather than out.

In Benton City there is an area where there are no holds barred for fireworks. People gather and can shoot off whatever they want as long as it is in this area. Then the city puts on their show for the finale. The show was 17 minutes and rather amazing for a very small community. All in all it was a safe and happy 4th. As one of my kids said: I enjoy this because of the freedom it expresses. At no other time do I see people in mass all happy with each other not feeling constrained. The rest of the year there is this rule or that. There is only one rule till the 20 minute show; that is the golden rule.

George Santayana said: "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." There is Biblical principle for remembering from whence we came: "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." (Galatians 5:1-3) One way to stand firm is to remember what we are standing firm against.

While Paul in Galatians is speaking of a personal freedom, today our country celebrates a hard won political freedom. Let us not forget the principles on which it was originally based.
